Board Book Review: Where Are You, Little Pig? (Spanish and English Editions)

Where Are You, Little Pig? by Margarita Del Mazo

Where Are You, Little Pig?
by Margarita Del Mazo, Laure du Faÿ

1 out of 5 stars

The wolf searches for little pig in the tree, behind the rock, and in the house. The reader can see little pig hiding, but the wolf cannot. Little pig keeps running to a new hiding place, but when the wolf finally finds him, little pig says, “I told you I don’t want to play hide and seek anymore!” and little pig runs away from the wolf.

I’m not really sure what is going on in this board book. I don’t get the joke. I guess we are supposed to be worried that the wolf is chasing the pig for nefarious reasons (to eat him or blow down his house like the Three Little Pigs story), and then we are supposed to be relieved and find it funny that is was actually just hide and seek all the time. But that wasn’t really clear.

Yoga Tots Board Book Series Review

Brave Bear by Tessa Strickland
Yoga Tots by Tessa Strickland

Brave Bear (Yoga Tots)

Yoga Tots: Happy Tiger
by Tessa Strickland, Estelí Meza

5 out of 5 stars

Children in the illustrations follow the movements of a polar bear and tiger cub to do calming yoga poses. They reach and stretch and slowly breathe in and out.

The illustrations are really cute with bright colors! The text does a good job of explaining the poses, and the artwork clearly shows what movements you are supposed to make in each pose.

Picture Book Review: Pop a Little Pancake

Pop a Little Pancake by Annie Kubler

Pop a Little Pancake (Baby Rhyme Time)
by Annie Kubler (Illustrator), Sarah Dellow (Goodreads Author) (Illustrator)

4 out of 5 stars

Two toddlers make pancakes from their playdough, singing a song as they toss the pancake in the air, sprinkle sugar on top, and even squeeze lemon juice onto the pancake.

I love that this board book has the sheet music for the song on the back cover, so that if you read music, you can play and sing along.

Board Book Review: Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes

Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes... by Annie Kubler

Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes…
by Annie Kubler

5 out of 5 stars

This is the perfect board book for little babies who are just learning to identify parts of the body. The children in the artwork touch their heads, shoulders, knees, and toes, and then move on to eyes, ears, mouth, and nose as well. As you sing the song, you can point to each area of the body and dance along!

I really like the bright colors and simple design of this book. It’s perfect for catching the attention of little readers!

Bo goes on an adventure at the farm! He feeds the animals, harvests vegetables and fruit, milks the cows, and collects honey from the beehive. Board Book Review: Bumblebee Grumblebee

Bumblebee Grumblebee by David Elliot

Bumblebee Grumblebee
by David Elliot

5 out of 5 stars

If a bumblebee breaks his toy, he becomes a “grumblebee”. If a rhinoceros drops his ice-cream cone, he becomes a “crynoceros”. If a hamster eats an entire jar of jam, he becomes a “jamster”. Each of the animals have a twist on their name, until at the end of the book the turtle does something unexpected!

This board book is adorable! It’s especially fun to read aloud and giggle over the silly names.

Picture Book Reviews: Atticus Caticus, Sophie’s Seashell Scramble, Phoebe Dupree is Coming to Tea!

Atticus Caticus by Sarah Maizes

Atticus Caticus
by Sarah Maizes (Goodreads Author), Kara Kramer (Illustrator)
5 out of 5 stars

A cat named Atticus stretches and yawns and naps in the sunshine. His owner feeds him, and dangles string for him to play with. Atticus sees a bird out the window, but can’t get to it. At bath time, Atticus does his own style of washing by licking his fur.

The best part of this book is the silly rhyming with any word that rhymes with “cat”. Atticus “jumps splat-a-tat-taticus”, and he has a “tummy so fat-ticus”. It’s so funny to read out loud!

I like the cute crayon-style illustrations! Every page has energy and humor in the artwork.

This board book encourages the young reader that they are ready for kindergarten. They know the colors and shapes. They know all their numbers and letters. They know how to listen and obey. There’s no reason to be worried about starting kindergarten, because these little readers are ready to learn!

This is such a cute book! I love the positive messages about being proud of all you have learned, and being willing to take on new challenges.

Cucu! en el mar/Peekaboo in the Ocean by Cocoretto

Cucu! en el mar/Peekaboo in the Ocean
by Cocoretto (Illustrator)
5 out of 5 stars

This cute board book asks the reader, Who is hiding there? The illustrations first show an ocean creature covering their eyes to play peekaboo, then when you lift the flap you can see them diving through the seas or digging through the sand.

This is such a sweet book! I love that it is bilingual in Spanish and English for little readers who are learning two languages. The flaps are very sturdy to withstand the destruction of little hands. I love the adorable art and the bright colors! Every page is charming and fun!

Board Book Reviews: F is for Farm, and C is for City

F Is for Farm by Ashley Marie Mireles

F Is for Farm
by Ashley Marie Mireles (Goodreads Author), Volha Kaliaha (Illustrations)
4 out of 5 stars

This board book leads the reader through the alphabet, teaching words that have to do with farming. Some of the words are obvious ones (D is for Duck, and B is for Barn), but others of them are more exotic (X is for Ximenia), and one of the words left me confused about why it was included (N is for Next-Gen).

The illustrations are bright and colorful, and I love the cute art style! Every page is vibrant with animals, plants, and farming equipment. The farmers pick apples in the orchard, irrigate the fields, harvest pumpkins, milk the cow, and collect eggs from the chickens.
