This cute board book asks the reader, Who is hiding there? The illustrations first show an ocean creature covering their eyes to play peekaboo, then when you lift the flap you can see them diving through the seas or digging through the sand.

This is such a sweet book! I love that it is bilingual in Spanish and English for little readers who are learning two languages. The flaps are very sturdy to withstand the destruction of little hands. I love the adorable art and the bright colors! Every page is charming and fun!

A un niño le gusta pintarse las uñas de colores brillantes, pero los otros niños de la escuela se burlan de él y dicen que es una niña. El padre del niño también comienza a pintarse las uñas, solo para mostrar que los niños o los hombres pueden haberse pintado las uñas y seguir siendo masculinos. El día de su cumpleaños, toda la clase de la escuela del niño tiene una sorpresa especial para él. TODOS también se pintan las uñas, ¡incluso los chicos!

Me gustan los mensajes positivos de este libro de que nunca está bien intimidar a alguien por su apariencia, y está bien que le gusten las cosas divertidas sin importar cuál sea la percepción de otras personas. El niño de este libro no es transgénero. Solamente le gustan los colores brillantes y es creativo.

¡Me encantan las lindas ilustraciones y el interesante estilo artístico! Cada escena está llena de emoción y el arte realmente muestra el significado detrás de la historia.

A little boy likes to paint his fingernails in bright colors, but the other boys at school make fun of him and say he is a girl. The boy’s father starts to paint his fingernails too, just to show that boys or men can have painted fingernails and still be masculine. On his birthday, the entire class at the boy’s school has a special surprise for him. They ALL paint their fingernails too, even the boys!

I like the positive messages in this book that it is never okay to bully someone for their appearance, and it is okay to like fun things no matter what other people’s perception is. The boy in this book is not transgender. He just likes bright colors, and he is creative.

I love the cute illustrations and the interesting art style! Every scene is full of emotion, and the art really shows the meaning behind the story.

Este libro ilustrado cuenta la historia real de un joven inmigrante ilegal que viaja con su padre a los Estados Unidos desde México. El niño y su padre dejan a su familia en México y nadan a través del Río Grande y caminan durante días por el desierto. No tienen hogar hasta que el padre puede encontrar un trabajo y enviar a su hijo a la escuela pública. El niño aprende inglés de otros niños en la escuela. Años más tarde, el niño y su padre se reencuentran con el resto de su familia.

Esta es una historia conmovedora de lo que las personas están dispuestas a sufrir y soportar para tener una mejor oportunidad en la vida para sus familias. Crecí en México cuando era niña y luego me mudé de regreso a los Estados Unidos donde mis padres son ciudadanos, así que conozco muchos mexicanos que han vivido este tipo de historia. Mi corazón está con ellos. Romper la ley al inmigrar ilegalmente nunca es una buena idea, y es aún peor enviar a un niño a esa situación, pero puedo entender qué llevaría a la gente a esos extremos. Tienen mi compasión, y este libro ciertamente me hace llorar. Esta es una historia muy importante para contar.

Las ilustraciones son realmente coloridas y el arte es hermoso con su propio estilo único. Sin embargo, creo que el libro tiene demasiado texto para un libro para niños. Cada página tiene varios párrafos y oraciones largas. No estoy seguro de qué grupo de edad es el objetivo de este libro. Puede ser para 4º o 5º grado, pero la obra de arte parece un poco infantil para ese grupo de edad. Me gusta que el libro sea bilingüe, con español e inglés en cada página.

This picture book tells the true story of a young illegal immigrant who travels with his father to the United States from Mexico. The boy and his father leave their family in Mexico and swim across the Rio Grande and walk for days across the desert. They are homeless until the father is able to find a job and send his son to public school. The boy learns English from other children at school. Years later, the boy and his father are reunited with the rest of their family.

This is such a touching story of what people are willing to suffer and endure in order to have a better chance in life for their families. I grew up in Mexico as a child and then moved back to the United States where my parents are citizens, so I am friends with many Mexican people who have lived this kind of story. My heart goes out to them. Breaking the law by immigrating illegally is never a good idea, and it’s even worse to drag a child into that situation, but I can understand what would drive people to such extremes. They have my compassion, and this book certainly brings a tear to my eye. This is such an important story to be told.

The illustrations are really colorful and the art is beautiful with its own unique style. I think the book is too text-heavy for a children’s book though. Every page has multiple paragraphs and long sentences. I’m not sure what age group is the target audience for this book. It might be for 4th or 5th grade, but the art work seems a little childish for that age group. I do like that the book is bilingual, with both Spanish and English on each page.
