Book Review: The Middle School Rules of Brian Urlacher

The Middle School Rules of Brian Urlacher
The Middle School Rules of Brian Urlacher by Sean Jensen
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I don’t know anything about football, so I was pretty lost through most of this book. But I think if I were a 6th-8th grade kid who loved football, I would probably love this book!

This tells the story of a young boy who loves sports, mainly basketball and football, and how that plays a large role in the development of his character. Continue reading

Book Review: Warrior Chicks

Warrior Chicks: Rising Strong When Life Wants to Take You Down
Warrior Chicks: Rising Strong When Life Wants to Take You Down by Holly Wagner
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is an empowering book about relying on God, surviving the battles of life, and being beautiful just the way you are! It’s definitely an inspiring and encouraging book!
One thing I really loved about this book is that it doesn’t just encourage you to survive through the dark places in life, but to also overcome that darkness and come out on the other side with inner light that you can shine onto others. Continue reading

Book Review: Laugh-Out-Loud Pocket Doodles for Boys

Laugh-Out-Loud Pocket Doodles for Boys
Laugh-Out-Loud Pocket Doodles for Boys by Rob Elliott
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This hilarious book of jokes has partial illustrations that you can doodle on and fill in the rest of the picture with your own imaginative drawings!
I really liked that the author has included a “Humor Code” in the beginning of the book, that includes rules like “Don’t make jokes at other’s expense.” I love that these jokes are clean and remind us that we can still be funny without hurting, teasing, or bullying others. Continue reading

Book Review: A Sherlock Holmes Devotional

A Sherlock Holmes Devotional: Uncovering the Mysteries of God
A Sherlock Holmes Devotional: Uncovering the Mysteries of God by Trisha White Priebe
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I adore this devotional based on lessons from the works of Sherlock Holmes! Each chapter focuses on a particular quote, or a quality of Holmes and Watson, or one of their adventures, and weaves a similarity between that concept and the Christian life. Although Conan Doyle was not a notable Christian and Holmes is somewhat ambiguous about his beliefs, there are still lessons to be learned from the stories! Continue reading
