He is too wily and too powerful. Serilda tries everything she can think of to find a weakness in the Erlking, some way to trick him or defeat him. But at every turn, he laughs in their faces and continues to terrorize humans, ghosts, and every magical creature in the realm.

Iko and Kinney are teaming up again to stop the bloodthirsty Lunar wolf-soldiers who are terrorizing Earth, but this time Alpha Steele is planning even worse atrocities, murdering and kidnapping Cinder’s friends to get his revenge on the Lunar throne.
Cinder and all the gang are back, navigating the tenuous politics between Earth and Luna, and finding a little time to just hang out as friends.

I really enjoyed seeing more of Iko’s story unfold, and how her unique programming was developed. And of course, I loved seeing all my favorite characters again, being all cute and delightful and fierce.

I love this continuation of the Lunar Chronicles series, especially since it’s a graphic novel! After Cinder takes the throne and the Earthen-Lunar war is over, there are still some wolf-soldiers running around Earth unsupervised, causing death and destruction.
So Iko, the sassy android, takes up the task of retrieving all the deserters of the wolf army and bringing them back to Luna to face justice and/or be rehabilitated. It will take all her fancy programming and a lot of nerve to keep her friends safe, and even more determination to convince people that she has feelings just like a human.

I really loved the blue-tinted artwork, and I was impressed with the layout of the panels, and the pacing of the story. Some of the characters didn’t look quite how I had imagined them in my head, but that’s okay. Really beautiful cartoony style that pulled me into the world of Luna!

Book Review: Heartless

Catherine is being courted by the King of Hearts, but he is a silly idiot, and she only wants to pursue her dream to open a bakery of her own. When Catherine meets the dashing court Jester, she soon learns that he is full of impossible secrets, and the two embark on a wild adventure of romance and deceit that will lead them to their frightful destiny.

This book completely broke my heart! The worst part was seeing the characters all so happy and hopeful in the beginning, knowing that the ending would be tragic. I can’t even write a review about it. My heart is so full of conflicting emotions, and my brain is revolving around and around this story, every word they said to each other, the silly riddles, the shy moments, the terrible violence and tragedy. Can’t. My heart.

One of the best things about this book is the little details of a life in Wonderland. A clock that talks, the weird conversations with Wonderland characters, the Cheshire cat popping up everywhere, and all the strange recipes. So many times, I said to myself, Oh, so THAT’s why that thing is that way in Wonderland. That’s why the cook uses too much pepper! That’s why the baby turned into a pig! I loved all those details that explained some of the weirdness encountered by Alice. haha! Loved it!

I love the sweet and witty dialogue, and the wonderfully delicious setting! But oh my goodness, the emotional turmoil!

All my Lunar dreams come true in this book! I loved reading the backstories of so many characters, seeing them developing and growing as children into the people we know and love in the series. And then there was the wedding!!! I was laughing and crying and smiling through my tears. All my beloved characters happy and together and prospering- I’m in reader heaven!

Most of these I had already read as the short stories came out bit by bit, and of course, I adore them all. The new stories definitely did not disappoint me either! Continue reading →
