Manga Review: Ouran High School Host Club
Ouran High School Host Club, Vol. 1 by Bisco Hatori

Haruhi stumbles into the Host Club headquarters, and accidentally knocks over an expensive vase. In order to pay for the vase, Haruhi has to work with the Host Club entertaining young ladies at parties and teas. But what they don’t know is that Haruhi, although she dresses in a masculine way, is actually a girl! Haruhi must pretend to be a boy to pay back her debt, and the more she hangs out with the boys of the Host Club, the more she realizes how mysterious they really are.
After watching the anime, I’m already in love with these characters, so reading it as manga just enhances the whole story! I love the artwork. I love the sweet characters and their hilarious drama! I love how the characters seem shallow in the beginning, but then we gradually begin to see more depth to each of them. I love how every character is unique and has their own backstory.
I’m glad that I watched the anime first though, because it’s easier to keep track of the many supporting characters.
Can’t wait to read them all!
Comic Review: Avatar: The Last Airbender 1

I love and adore everything to do with Avatar, but this little book was really just a cut and paste of screenshots from the TV show, and that doesn’t exactly work well for a book.
If there had been new art that was created for a book format, it would have looked better and flowed better for a written story. A lot of the time the action wasn’t clear, because the panels weren’t created to make that action clear on paper.
Other Avatar comics that I’ve seen (like The Search or The Rift) were actually created to be comics, and those are wonderful and work perfectly and the artwork is fantastic! So I was disappointed to see that this is so poorly organized.
As far as the story goes, of course I adore Aang and Katara and Sokka! The plot is perfection, the characters are marvelous, and the world building is phenomenal! I just wish this little comic did them justice.

Otogi, a descendant of the Grimm Brothers, has to battle his ancestors’ fairy tale characters, and trap them inside an ancient magical book before they destroy him. But the dark truth about the deal the Grimm brothers made to write the stories isn’t the only mystery Otogi will need to unravel if he is to discover who he can trust and who is determined to kill him.

Manga Classics: Pride & Prejudice by Stacy King
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This was a fun little adaptation of P&P into manga form, but it’s a little too cutesy and “teen drama” for me. There are roses and hearts everywhere, and the character’s facial expressions and actions are too overly dramatic.
I mean, if someone is going to collapse into a chair from illness, is it really necessary for them to pitch headlong to the floor in a flurry of curly hair and roses, and with their cloak fluttering behind them? haha!
