Book Review: Hit by Lorie Ann Grover

Sarah, a highschool student, is hit by a car on her way to poetry class. In her pocket is a poem to Mr. Haddings, her poetry teacher, whom she is crushing on. When Mr. Haddings accidentally hits his student while driving to work, he has to decide if he will acknowledge his growing attraction to her or continue to act professionally as he has been doing all year.

What first drew me to this book is the lovely cover, so beautiful and hinting about the romantic tragedy within.
This book was okay, not amazing though. It’s told from Continue reading

“Tried and True” by Mary Connealy

Kylie Wilde is the youngest sister—and the most civilized. Her older sisters might be happy dressing in trousers and posing as men, but Kylie has grown her hair long and wears skirts every chance she gets. It’s a risk—they are homesteading using the special exemptions they earned serving in the Civil War as “boys”—but Kylie plans to make the most of the years before she can sell her property and return to the luxuries of life back East.

Local land agent Aaron Masterson is fascinated with Kylie from the moment her long hair falls from her cap. But now that he knows her secret, can he in good conscience defraud the U.S. government? And when someone tries to force Kylie off her land, does he have any hope of convincing her that marrying him and settling on the frontier is the better option for her future?

The characters are complex and compelling, the plot is packed with action and mystery, and the writing is fun and full of cowboy charm. Continue reading

Cheaper by the Dozen Book Review

Dispel from your minds any idea of movie adaptations. We are talking BOOKS here!
“Cheaper by the Dozen” and “Belles on Their Toes” by Frank Gilbreth, Jr. and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey

The dedication of the book says: “To Dad, who only reared twelve children. and To Mother, who reared twelve only children.”
So beautiful!

The new movies with the title “Cheaper by the Dozen” are nothing at all like the books, and are perfectly awful. However the old 1950 movies of both “Cheaper by the Dozen” and “Belles on Their Toes” are pretty close to the original books, and very enjoyable.
