Katie discovers a mushroom that will erase her mistakes if she writes down her mistake and eats a mushroom before bed. She wakes up the next day and gets a second chance. Soon she is making mistakes and bad choices all over the place, and just erases them the next day. Her career as a chef is in shambles as she struggles to open her new restaurant, and her personal life is in total chaos since she is sleeping with two different men. A mysterious house spirit appears and tells her that it’s against the rules to use more than one mushroom, but Katie doesn’t care. She keeps erasing all her foolish mistakes and getting further and further from a normal life.
I liked the parts about the house spirits and the magical mushrooms, but I hated everything else. Katie is a horrible person, selfish and foolish and greedy. I hated that she is sleeping around and she is so horrible to the people around her. I get that a big premise of the story is that Katie’s life is a disaster, so she goes overboard with erasing her mistakes and gets into deeper trouble, but did she have to be such an immoral jerk for the entire book? I feel like she could have had all the character development without the story going to such dark places.
There is also a lot of profanity in this book that annoyed me.
