Book Review: Murder at Hazelmoor

Murder at Hazelmoor by Agatha Christie

Murder at Hazelmoor
by Agatha Christie
3 out of 5 stars

Major Burnaby takes part in a séance, even though he doesn’t believe in such foolishness. But when a supposed “spirit from the beyond” tells the group that the Major’s best friend has been murdered, Major Burnaby decides to trek through the snow to check on his friend. He discovers the body, brutally murdered.
When her fiancé is accused of the murder, Emily Trefusis sets out to assist the police in tracking down the true killer.

I guessed the solution of who the real murderer was at about page 65. The mystery was sort of obvious. However, that didn’t lessen my enjoyment of the book! There were a couple of other little minor mysteries that were fun, and I loved all the character studies. I was a little bored by the red herrings though. They all seemed to lead nowhere, and they were full of coincidences.

Book Review: Knock Three Times!

Knock Three Times! by Marion St. John Webb

Knock Three Times!
by Marion St. John Webb
5 out of 5 stars
Molly and her brother Jack encounter a strange magical Grey Pumpkin, and they follow it into another realm. They embark on a quest to find the elusive Black Leaf and defeat the evil Grey Pumpkin. There are many dangers along the way. Molly and Jack are not sure who to trust, but the kindly Old Nancy gives them some enchanted matches to help guide them.

I always love rereading this favorite children’s classic. The story is so exciting, and full of twists and turns. The world building is full of magic and enchantment. I love all the crazy characters that Molly and Jack meet on their travels. Every person is so memorable and different.
The writing style is excellent, and there is such a great balance of funny and serious scenes. The adventure is full of suspense, but there are some really hilarious parts too.
I always enjoy rereading this book over and over again! It’s such a delight!

Book Review: Shakespeare’s Avengers

William Shakespeare's Avengers by Ian Doescher

William Shakespeare’s Avengers: The Complete Works
by Ian Doescher (Goodreads Author)
5 out of 5 stars

The Avengers movies are retold in this Shakespearean format as if they were theater plays, complete with stage directions and Elizabethan language.

I got inspired to rewatch the movies, and watched each one right after reading the play! It was so fun to see how the book follows the movie scenes closely, but with little additions in the dialogue and aside comments to the audience. There is even a chorus that introduces scenes and explains the plot like Shakespeare’s plays would have.

Book Review: The Reverse Coloring Book

The Reverse Coloring Book™ by Kendra Norton

The Reverse Coloring Book™: The Book Has the Colors, You Draw the Lines!
by Kendra Norton
5 out of 5 stars

This is such a creative idea! With all the swirling colors on the page, it will really spark your imagination in a new way when you have to put in the lines and bring clarity to the page. I am so impressed with this beautiful book!

This whole book is so bright and attractive! Most of the pages are just random swirls of color. Some of the pages are very obviously flowers, but it would be interesting to challenge yourself to make it look like something other than flowers, or add little details of animals and insects into the scene as well.
