Diary of a Mad Brownie (The Enchanted Files, #1)
byBruce Coville
3 out of 5 stars
Angus is a Scottish brownie who has been cursed to follow the same family line through the centuries. When the oldest McGonagall dies, Angus has to move to America to find the next branch of the family, and discovers that he has to move in with Alex, a very messy young girl, and her very messy family. Can Angus break the curse and save the family he has sworn to protect?
I loved this clever modern fairy tale and all the magic and fairy creatures! The writing is hilarious, and Angus and Alex get into all kinds of magical shenanigans. I really enjoyed the writing style as Angus writes in a diary, and Alex makes a few journal entries, and we even see letters and emails between other characters. It was fun to get the story from different perspectives!
I did not like the illustration though. The characters are weirdly distorted with huge mouths and creepy eyes that stare at you.
