Eden is confused when she receives an invitation to join the escape room game online, but she has not been given a VR headset to join the game. She is surrounded by a strange murmuration of birds, and just finds herself inside the game. She meets Ted, who does have a headset, so he assumes that Eden must be an NPC since she doesn’t have one. Ted is on a mission to find three keys and unlock the world. Their first puzzle is in a massive forest where they must find a song. They move through various gates that lead them further and further into the game, where they are confronted with impossible puzzles that could lead to life-threatening danger or… escape.

I loved the mystery in this book! Every level of the game is so strange and full of weird enigmas. The details are really intriguing as you begin to put some of the clues together. There are always red herrings that seem to point to the answer, but if they want to find the key on each level, they have to look deeper.

There is a plot twist at the end that was pretty good, but I feel like it wasn’t as much of a game changer as the plot twist in the first book. Still, it was really fun to see those answers coming together at the end of the story.

This book is clever and exciting, and I hope the author writes more for this series!
