The Universe and You
by Suzanne Slade (Goodreads Author), Stephanie Fizer Coleman (Illustrations)
While you are sleeping, Earth is spinning you gently along its orbit around the Sun. The stars are swirling through the Milky Way galaxy, and thousands of other galaxies in the universe are whirling through the vastness of space. When the Sun comes up in the morning, you know that you have a special place in the universe.
This is such a beautiful book! I love the gorgeous illustrations of the shining stars and planets. The text really gives you a feeling of the massive universe and compares outer space to the smallest hummingbirds and daisies on Earth. It expands your perspective!
The art work is so pretty! I love the fuzzy art style and the way the colors of the stars spark across the dark night sky.

The Color Collector
by Nicholas Solis (Goodreads Author), Renia Metallinou (Illustrations)
A boy notices the new girl at school. She is quiet and alone. She doesn’t smile. They walk the same route home after school, and the boy sees her pick up a bright red piece of trash from the ground and put it in her backpack. He notices that she is always picking up trash and leaves and old wrappers. He asks her one day, what does she do with all those bits and pieces? The girl shows him a beautiful mural that she has created of her old home by the beach!
This is such a sweet story! I love books where children make friends with the new kid, and discover that they have a lot in common, but also things that are different and new. It’s so lovely to see how they bond and become friends over this lovely mural.
I love the beautiful art work in this book! The illustrations really bring out specific colors so that you notice each little detail.

Luna’s Green Pet
by Kirsten Pendreigh (Goodreads Author)
Luna really wants a pet, but her apartment building will not allow pets. Her friends suggest maybe a pet rock, but Luna doesn’t care for that idea. She finds a sad little plant that has been thrown out, and decides to adopt the plant as her pet, nursing it back to life with new soil and a new pot. Luna names her plant Stephanie, and Stephanie grows and grows until one day there are white bumps growing out of her. Luna is worried that Stephanie might be sick, until the bumps burst into fragrant blossoms!
This is such a cute book! The plot is hilarious and sweet, and I love how Luna pours all her love into that little plant. It’s so heart-warming and adorable!
The illustrations are so pretty, and I love the designs for Luna and her friends. Every page is beautiful with soothing green colors.
