What’s Cooking in Flowerville?
by Felicita Sala
People all over the city are harvesting fruits, vegetables, and herbs from their gardens. There are rooftop gardens, community gardens, window ledge herb gardens, and fruit trees in the apartment square. Each month of the year, something is being harvested and used in a special recipe. With a list of fresh ingredients, the reader can also make each recipe following the instructions.
I loved the beautiful illustrations in this book! The soft artwork is attractive and soothing. There are so many little details in each scene as children and adults care for their gardens and sow new seeds. The children play in the background of the bustling city, and help their parents to harvest vegetables and fruit. It really brings the scene to life, and makes me want to work in the garden too!
Each recipe has clear instructions and a list of ingredients. There are recipes for Lemony Bean Dip, Potato and Cod Croquettes, Butternut Squash Cake, Pear Pancakes, Tzatziki, and a bunch of others! They all look so delicious!
