The Ghost and Mrs. Muir by R.A. Dick

This little book was everything I wanted it to be! After seeing the movie many times, I had to read the book, and I was pleased to see that they are almost exactly alike, even down to some of the dialogue. Of course, I was imagining the actors through the entire thing, and I loved it!

Sweet little Mrs. Muir is widowed with two little children, and to escape her husband’s interfering relations, she moves into a cottage by the sea. But this cottage is haunted by an old sea captain’s ghost! Mrs. Muir befriends the ghost and the two learn to tolerate each other, and even support and rely on one another through the ups and downs of the years.

There’s a fresh sort of charm about the story and the writing. I really love the writing style, and every sentence pulled me in.
Mrs. Muir is completely adorable! I just want to hug her and give her a cup of tea.

There is a huge contrast between the characters that makes for an interesting setup. While Mrs. Muir is soft-spoken, innocent, and meek, Captain Gregg’s ghost is a very masculine man with forceful language and no nonsense. However, she does not let herself be bullied by him… most of the time. Their friendship is just delightful!

The plot really forces those two into some wild social circumstances, and I loved seeing them fight it out together. I adore this book!
