Quests for Glory (The School for Good and Evil: The Camelot Years #1)

3 out of 5 stars
Agatha and Tedros thought they had found their happy ending in Camelot, but things start to go wrong in the kingdom and all over the forest. All their friends are on quests that are failing, and Sophie is at the school, blissfully unaware of the disasters that are threatening them all. Tedros is completely embarrassed at his coronation and the people start to lose faith in him. A new villain calling himself the Snake vows to steal the crown of Camelot from Tedros, claiming to be Arthur’s eldest son. With all their quests failing, Sophie and Agatha will have to renew their close friendship if they want to save Camelot and the school.
I loved all the magic and fairy tale characters in Camelot! In this book we get to meet the Sheriff of Nottingham and Robin Hood, and some of Captain Hook’s pirates who are still hanging around making trouble after the demise of their captain.
The plot is really exciting in this book as they are gearing up for a big battle between good and evil, and there is a lot of mystery surrounding the Snake and where he comes from. There is a big plot twist, which I had already guessed from the middle of the book, but it was still interesting to see how it all plays out.
Tedros is really struggling in this book. I mean, he’s always been kind of a weirdo, and he makes a lot of foolish decisions, but this book just highlighted his idiocy because now that he’s almost king, people are really looking to him for wisdom and good leadership. He’s not a good judge of character, so he misreads some people that could have helped him. He gets himself and Camelot into trouble because he won’t listen to wise counsel. He’s impetuous and ridiculous and whiny. But I still really like him! He’s trying his best to do the right thing, and I loved the sweet continuation of his romance with Agatha. He has such great character development because he has a lot to learn!
Sophie is a mess, like always. She falls in love with the wrong guy… AGAIN. And she’s vapid and selfish and silly, but she really does care about her friends, and she’s there for them when things get dangerous. I love that her character is so complex!
I partly read this book with my eyes and partly listened to the audiobook narrated by Polly Lee. The narration was okay, but not great.
