Anti/Hero
by Kate Karyus Quinn (Author), Demitria Lunetta (Author), Maca Gil (Ilustrator)
Piper wants to be a superhero. She has super strength, but doesn’t always have the wisdom to use it responsibly. Sloane is a teenage thief. She has a super brain that can calculate the perfect heist, but even a genius can’t plan ahead to avoid everything.
When the two girls switch bodies due to a failed science experiment, they must learn to work together to stop the crime boss who is after them and their families.
This comic was so fun! I really liked both Piper and Sloane, and it was great to see their character development as they learn from each other.
The artwork is excellent, the plot is interesting, and I loved the cameo from Bruce Wayne!
Sloane has all these neat tech gadgets that she has developed. Piper has to eat and snack all the time to keep up her super strength. It’s the little details about their characters that make this story so special.
One of the best parts of this story is when Piper and Sloane are in a competition that has both athletic and academic requirements. Sloane’s first instinct is to cheat, but Piper convinces her that it’s meaningless to win by cheating, and that if they just work hard, they can still do well. Sloane trusts Piper’s judgement and they both get through the competition without cheating. I love that little lesson about the value of honesty and hard work, and the way it brings the two friends together!
