3 out of 5 stars

This book takes a close look at the history of Joseph, and how his faith in God shaped his life and saved his family. Although Joseph endured terrible injustice, abuse, and trauma, he trusted that God was with him in every situation. God worked in every circumstance to bring joy and prosperity to Joseph and his family.

I liked this book okay, but it was very redundant, saying the same things over and over again, and then paraphrasing it yet again in the next chapter. The whole book could have been about half as long, if the writing had been more concise. I also didn’t care for the personal stories from the author. I just wanted to read about Joseph, not hear anecdotes about other people.

Still, there are some good insights into what the Bible teaches us through the history of Joseph. Joseph doesn’t harbor bitterness or seek revenge. He just leaves it to God and he acts with integrity and kindness. There is a chapter that talks about leadership, and shows how Joseph governed Egypt with wisdom during the years of famine. I especially loved the theme of forgiveness, equating how Joseph forgave his brothers just as God forgives us, fully and freely and with joy.
