The Christmas Elephant: a Nativity Story
by Maria Antonia (Goodreads Author), Laura Zarrin (Goodreads Author) (illustrator)
Ellie loves to dress up in her elephant costume, but she is disappointed that there weren’t any elephants at Bethlehem. Ellie’s big sister Piper insists that Ellie will have to change into a sheep costume if she wants to go on stage for the Christmas nativity play, but Ellie tries to sneak on stage with her elephant costume. She insists that elephants never forget, and she wants to be an elephant in the play. When the prop for Baby Jesus is misplaced, it’s up to Ellie to remember where it is and save the day!
This is such a cute story! I loved Ellie’s carefree playfulness and Piper’s strict adherence to the plan. Their personalities are reflections of Mary and Martha, but in the end they both realize that the whole point of the nativity play is to focus on Jesus. It’s not about having the right costume or saying the right lines. It’s all about celebrating Jesus!
I liked the cute illustrations in this book. The artwork is really adorable!
