12 Little Elves Visit Georgia by Trish Madson

12 Little Elves Visit Georgia: A Christmas Counting Picture Book

4 out of 5 stars

Santa sends twelve little elves to Georgia to check if the kids are sleeping on Christmas Eve, but the elves get distracted exploring the Peach State. They visit the Georgia Aquarium, Anna Ruby Falls, and Jekyll Island. They put strings of twinkle lights on the state tree, the live oak, and they listen to the state bird, the brown thrasher, singing. The elves float on a raft down the Chattahoochee River, and see alligators at the Okefenokee Swamp. And of course, they have to sample the famous Georgia peaches!

I was disappointed that this book didn’t include any of the sights at Savannah, and most of the focus was on famous Atlanta attractions like the Coca-Cola museum and the Centennial Olympic Park. But I was happy to see natural beauties like rivers and waterfalls and our famous live oak trees included in the book! Naturally, they can’t include everything, so somebody somewhere in the state is bound to be disappointed that their favorite attraction wasn’t included. I think they did a good job of including as many important Georgia landmarks as they could.

I love the cute little elves! They are all designed to look different, and they are always getting up to magical shenanigans in the background of the illustrations. So adorable!

Hooray, It's Three Kings Day! by Annette M. Clayton

Hooray, It’s Three Kings Day!: A Picture Book for Epiphany

5 out of 5 stars

When her grandmother comes from Puerto Rico, Sofia is ready to celebrate the 12 days of Christmas with her family. Grandmother shows Sofia three little wooden figurines of the Three Kings who traveled to find Baby Jesus in Bethlehem. Every day Sofia moves the three figurines closer to the nativity manger scene to show how they traveled. They cook delicious food, and celebrate with their families for the whole Christmas season. On the Eve of Epiphany, Sofia puts a shoebox under her bed with some hay for the camels of the Three Kings, and in the morning the Three Kings have left her some gifts – special Puerto Rican candy and a little musical instrument, the guiro.

I loved this cute book all about celebrating Three Kings Day! It reminded me of my childhood in Mexico when most children would get even more presents on Three Kings Day than they did at Christmas (because of course the Three Kings are rich, so they can get you bigger gifts). Haha!

The descriptions of food made me so hungry, craving some Hispanic foods like I used to have as a child.

The illustrations are adorable, and I love the unique art style! This book captures all the magic of the Christmas season and the coziness of family gatherings!

¡Genial, llegó el Día de Reyes! by Annette M. Clayton

¡Genial, llegó el Día de Reyes!: A Picture Book for Epiphany (Spanish Edition)
by  Annette M. Clayton (Goodreads Author), Jone Leal (illustrator)
