Little Fairy Can't Sleep by Daniela Drescher

Little Fairy Can’t Sleep

3.5 out of 5 stars

Faith can’t sleep. The moon is too bright, and all the little animals in the forest are scuffling through the underbrush making noise. She gets up and begins to explore. One by one she sees the sandman, an owl, a family of little elves, and a fox mother. They all agree that there is something strange in the air that night, and no one is ready to sleep. Faith meets the moth prince fairy and he helps her to solve the mystery of why everyone is awake. It is midsummer night and the fairies are having a party!

This story is so cute and enchanting! I loved the magic of the story and the way Faith meets each of the animals and creatures, wondering why no one can sleep.

The illustrations are very dreamy and sweet. There are little insects and animals in the background, finding their way through the brambles and flowering vines of the forest. This is some of the best artwork I have seen from this artist, and the fairies look happy for once. I love the delicate lines and misty colors in the art style!

The Fairy Song by Janis Mackay

5 out of 5 stars

Rose and her family are poor woodcutters. One day Rose hears voices singing a midsummer song from within a hill. When the fairies come flying out, she adds a new line of music to their song, and they invite her to dance with them forever. Rose agrees to only two dances, for her parents are waiting for her at home. Rose promises to plant wild roses for the fairies every year. When Rose returns to her home, months have gone by and it is now autumn. The fairies give her a marvelous gift, beautiful shoes that never wear out.

This is such an entrancing story! Sweet little Rose is pathetic and poor, but her fortune changes when she meets the fairies. I was glad that the fairies are not malicious or sly like they are in so many old fairy tales. It was refreshing to have a fairy story based on those old-fashioned tales but with kind fairies!

I love the pretty illustrations! The art work is delicate and beautiful, with flowers blooming all over the forest. I loved the cute designs for the little fairies!
