Book Review: Unicornia: The Dance Show

Unicornia by Ana Punset

Unicornia: The Dance Show
by Ana Punset, Diana Vicedo (Illustrator)

Claudia and her friends want to enter the school dance show, but they can’t come up with a dance routine. They stumble around and bump into each other and clap on the wrong beat. Claudia says they just need more practice, but she worries that they will make fools of themselves in front of everyone at the dance show. Should they look for a magical short-cut, or just put in the work and practice more?

This was such a cute book! I love all the magic in the land of Unicornia and the sweet characters. It’s so lovely how Claudia’s friends rally together to rise to the challenge, and they learn about the value of hard work. They are tempted to cheat with a magic potion that could magically make them good dancers, but in the end they learn that cheating is not the answer. Although this is the fourth book in the series, it can also be read as a stand-alone.

I loved the adorable art work! It really brings the magic to life, and I loved seeing all the cute designs. All the clouds and animals and even the food has cutesy faces. It’s so funny and whimsical!

This book has been marked on the Screen It First website for a scene where the girls sneak into the school to take some potion ingredients from a classroom. https://screenitfirst.com/book/unicornia-the-dance-show-2593579
