Inklings: A Pocket-Sized Inky Coloring Book
by Johanna Basford

5 out of 5 stars

This coloring book is really cute! It has whimsical designs to color and much thicker paper than regular coloring books, so that you could use ink or marker. However, despite the thicker paper, the book warns that the ink might bleed through the paper, so there is a blank test page at the end specifically for testing your ink or marker to see if it bleeds through.
Despite the name of the book, the author has a little page of coloring tips at the beginning, saying that she prefers to use colored pencils.

The binding is strong, meaning that the book won’t flop open, so it would be difficult to color into the crease of the spine. And the pages aren’t perforated, so you can’t easily tear them out of the book to color either.

I like that this is a small “pocket-sized” coloring book. It’s an A5 paper size book (5.83 in x 8.27 in). Just right for slipping in your purse or book bag to take with you when you need a moment to relax with some coloring!

I love the cute designs! Some of them are more simple, and some more elaborate. There are beautiful flower designs, and also a page of roosters! haha! It’s all kind of random subjects, but each page is really pretty. There are boats, and purses, and a whale, toadstools, and butterflies, and a car with a massive cake strapped on top. Every page is a delightful surprise!
