Princess Anya goes on a quest to de-transform her sister’s suitor after he was transformed into a frog by an evil sorcerer. She must gather ingredients to make a magical lip balm that simulates true love’s kiss to undo evil spells. Along the way, she meets other transformees who beg her to change them back to their proper forms. Traveling in the company of a royal dog and a mischievous thief transformed into a newt, Anya encounters giants, good wizards, witches, magic carpets, and a host of other odd characters.

I loved this book so much! The plot has a lot of twists and the characters all play different roles in helping or hindering Anya on her quest. The writing is really hilarious, and Anya gets into some crazy shenanigans that had me laughing. The magic and the world building are delightful, and I loved all the weird magical objects that Anya encounters. You might think a magic carpet is fairly simple, but this fairytale world has some unexpected surprises as Anya learns about the hidden flaws in each magical object.

I loved that Princess Anya has some serious character development as she considers how best to help her kingdom, and she realizes how quickly power corrupts. She’s a really complex character, and I loved how she rises to every challenge.
