These nine tales are told from the perspective of different characters who all have adventures in one of the different nine realms. In each realm they encounter Thor going on his cross-world jog to get ten million steps in on his fitness app.

Odin has problems finding a new Valkyrie captain in Asgard.
Amir is tricked into wearing cursed pants in Midgard.
Blitzen dodges his old enemies in Nidavellir, the home of the dwarves.
Hearthstone comes to the aid of his old friends in Alfheim.
Samirah goes on special assignment for Odin to Jotunheim, the land of giants.
T.J. travels to Helheim to save his mother’s spirit from torture.
Mallory stumbles through the wrong door and ends up half-frozen on Niflheim, the world of ice.
Halfborn is annoyed half to death by the cutesy inhabitants of Vanaheim.
And in the final story, Alex, the “gender-fluid” character, stops an evil plot in Muspellheim, the land of fire giants.

These stories are okay, but nothing amazing. It’s fun to revisit the world of Magnus Chase and see some little snippets from each of these characters, but the plots aren’t very well-crafted. It’s just kind of random this and that. I guess I was expecting a more coherent story throughout.

I was especially annoyed at the story from Alex’s perspective. I’ve never liked that character, so I didn’t enjoy that story at all.

Overall, fun and interesting, but not great.
