DragonFire (DragonKeeper Chronicles, #4)
by Donita K. Paul (Goodreads Author)
In this fourth book of the series, Kale and Bardon have been married for three years, but they are forced to go on separate quests and they do not like being apart for such a length of time. Kale goes with her father to recruit as many dragons as they can, to fight in the war against the evil wizards. Bardon is sent to shore up the defenses along the coast against an attack of monstrous octopi. They will both be tested beyond their endurance in the midst of this war, but they trust in God to keep them safe and bring them together again.
I loved this book so much! The magic and dragons and quests are just perfect, but the best parts are the spiritual themes and wisdom that run through the book. There is such a depth and beauty to the writing, and I was so pleased with the echoes of Christianity!
The world building is amazing! There are many different types of dragons and we get to see Kale and her father working as DragonKeepers with a special connection to dragons. Kale especially has trouble working so closely with her father at first. They have a little bit of friction as they are not quite on the same wavelength sometimes. Kale likes to have a plan before she moves forward with any action, but her father works more spontaneously as he sees the situation evolve. They have to compromise and learn to trust each other in new ways as they work together to recruit new dragons.
Every character is so original and well-rounded and interesting! I really loved seeing how Kale and Bardon rely on each other and support each other in their marriage; but they also have to learn how to connect better with their families and friends and not neglect other relationships.
I can’t wait to read the final book in the series next!
