In this second book of the series, Lily must venture into the underworld to save her beloved Amon. She begs the ancient gods to help her, knowing they will use her strength for their own purposes to keep the god of chaos at bay. But Lily is willing to sacrifice anything to help Amon, even her own sanity.

I loved learning about the ancient Egyptian gods and legends in this book. The adventure is really exciting and there are many mysteries and twists! The characters are compelling, and I was definitely crying at a few of the more emotional scenes. I read the whole book in two days, because it was so fascinating on many levels.

One of the best things about this book was seeing the three brothers on their own “home turf” in the underworld. It’s like they were on vacation in the mortal world in the first book, and now we see them at work where they are more serious and dutiful. They guide Lily through the horrors of hell, but in the end, she has to make the journey on her own strength.

The romance between Lily and Amon has become more and more complicated, as Lily begins to develop feelings for others as well. Her love for Amon is true, but now her heart is pulling her in many different directions. It’s a clean romance with only a few scenes of kissing.

Amon’s brother, Asten, is a complex and interesting character. In this book we get to know a lot more about his past. He opens up about secrets he has kept hidden for millennia, and it brings him closer to Lily and to his brothers as they share that vulnerability together.
I really loved all the character development in this book!
