My First Lift-The-Flap Nursery Rhymes
by Ingela P. Arrhenius (illustrator)
These familiar nursery rhymes are made special by the inclusion of lift-the-flap designs that reveal a cute character or animal behind them. The reader can find Little Bo Peep’s sheep hiding behind a bush. The piggy that stayed at home is reading a book by a cozy fire. An energetic cow jumps over the moon. A spider is revealed inside Miss Muffet’s bowl of curds and whey. An elephant and fox row row row their boat. Humpty Dumpty takes a terrible fall behind the wall on the largest flap.
My favorite lift-the-flap reveal is when a cheeky mouse is hidden inside the clock. So cute! I love all the colorful illustrations and simple designs. Every animal character is smiling and adorable. Every page is attractive and fun. Even as adult, I enjoyed lifting the flaps to reveal the hidden picture. I know my little nieces will love this one!

When I Became Your Grandma (When I Became Your…, 1)
by Susannah Shane, Britta Teckentrup (Illustrator)
A sweet panda grandmother reassures her little grandchild cub that the cub is always safe and loved. They spend their days together playing and exploring, and when a snowstorm comes, the grandmother keeps the cub safe and warm.
The artwork is so beautiful! I love how the atmosphere of affection and caring is shown through the warmth of the art.
The text is really sweet and joyful. You can feel the special connection between grandmother and grandchild as they interact. The rhymes are excellent and feel good to read out loud because the rhythm also fits. Each sentence rolls off the tongue, making this the perfect book to read out loud at bedtime.

Hen in the Bed
by Katrina Charman (Goodreads Author), Guilherme Karsten (Illustrator)
There were 10 in the bed, and the speckled hen said, “Roll over!”
One by one the animals roll over and fall out of bed! Little readers will enjoy counting down and making the animal sounds for each animal character as they fall out of bed. But when only the speckled hen is left in bed, what will the other animals do?
It is impossible to read this book without singing along! It’s so catchy and fun! I love the cute illustrations and all the details in the background as the different animals fall out of bed and have difficulties. Cow drops her book and falls on Lion’s tail. Sheep falls on top of the Cat, while Cow is bandaging Lion’s tail. The Cow starts reading her book aloud for the others to hear, but Sloth misses it because he’s already asleep on the floor! The storytime is broken up when Bear crashes out of bed, but somehow Sloth manages to sleep through it all. The animals are all in a muddle on the floor, until the Speckled Hen is alone in bed. It’s hilarious!
