One Stormy Christmas by M. Christina Butler

One Stormy Christmas

5 out of 5 stars

After a terrible winter storm, Hedgehog emerges from his home to see his friends. They start to plan a Christmas party, but Rabbit tells them that the Beavers need their help. Rocks and debris have fallen around the Beaver’s home and trapped them inside. The animal friends set off to rescue the Beavers, and they discover that teamwork can do anything!

This is such a cute story! I love how all the friends work together with a positive attitude to overcome the obstacles in their way.

The illustrations are so pretty, and I love the winter wonderland scenery on each page. The designs for the animal characters are adorable!

Santarella by Suzy Senior

Santarella: A merry twist on Cinderella
by Suzy Senior, Lucy Semple (Illustrator)

5 out of 5 stars

When her evil stepsisters go to the ball, Cinderella wishes she could go out as well. Suddenly someone comes down the chimney! Is it her fairy godmother? Nope, it’s Santa Claus. He needs help delivering the presents, so Cinderella joins him for a magical night of travelling all over the world. Santa gives Cinderella a special pair of dance shoes, and drops her off at the ball to meet the prince. But Cinderella takes one look inside the castle, and decides that she would rather do some more travelling. Santa takes her home to pack a bag, and Cinderella goes travelling all around the fairytale kingdom. She helps others and learns some new skills. But every Christmas she joins Santa again to help deliver the presents!

This was such a fun reimagining of the Cinderella story! I like that Cinderella just can’t be bothered with the boring prince. She has other plans!

The illustrations are hilarious because there is always some little thing hidden in the background. The mice are up to shenanigans, or there is a fairy flying past, or a giant peeking out their window. I love the art style and all the little details!

Dinosaur, Dinosaur, It's Christmas by Danielle McLean

Dinosaur, Dinosaur, It’s Christmas
by Danielle McLean, Sanja Rešček (Illustrator)

5 out of 5 stars

The dinosaurs are all ready for Christmas! This book includes familiar nursery rhymes, reimagined for a dino Christmas. “Twinkle Twinkle” becomes “Twinkle, twinkle, Christmas star… Bring the dinos gifts of love…” Three little dinosaurs try to pull Santa’s sled, but one falls down and bumps his head. We can deck the halls, ring the Christmas bells, and wish everyone a “roarsome Christmas”!

This board book is so adorable! I’m going to give this to my little nephew for Christmas, since he is obsessed with dinosaurs. It will be fun to read it, and sing the little nursery rhymes together.

I love the cute illustrations! Every little dino has a sweet smile on their face, and I love the festive colors.
