How Did Romans Count to 100?: Introducing Roman Numerals (How Do?)
by Lucy D. Hayes, Srimalie Bassani (Illustrator)
Roman numerals can be confusing at first, but this book explains all about Roman numerals in a fun way that is easy to understand! There are rules to follow so that you know whether to add or subtract to find the correct number. Once you have mastered Roman numerals, you can quiz yourself with a test at the back of the book, and then try some fun activities and even break a secret code!
How Do You Measure a Slice of Pizza?: A Book About Geometry
by Madeline J Hayes, Lucy D. Hayes, Srimalie Bassani (Illustrator)
If you want to know how much pizza you can eat, then you can use a geometry formula to help you measure the exact height and width and length of your food! You just need the circumference and the radius, and you can measure exactly how much ice cream you have, including the cone. So get out a ruler or measuring tape, and you can do some simple geometry!
My one complaint about this book is that it made me hungry! haha!
How Do You Stop a Moving Train?: A Physics Book About Forces
by Lucy D. Hayes, Madeline J. Hayes, Srimalie Bassani (Illustrator)
How do we measure how fast and how far things travel? We use physics! Whether is it a train slowing down with friction, or a car speeding up using force to accelerate, we can measure the speed using a physics formula. It’s gravity and time and distance and all the forces of nature coming together in Newton’s laws of motion. Once you know the laws and the formula, you can try some experiments of your own at the back of the book!
These are such fun books! I love the cute illustrations and the hilarious characters. The information is clearly explained step by step in a playful way that makes it memorable. It was so interesting learning more about ancient Roman times and how we still use Roman numerals today. I loved learning the basics of geometry and physics, and how math formulas can help us understand the world around us.
